The son of Johann Wilhelm "Kuno" Belling and Dellah Jackson Grace, Thomas was the youngest of 9 children. His mother, Dellah, died when he was 7-months-old.

Thomas married Beatrice Imogene "Jean" Bacchus on 22 Jul 1933 in Pope County, Arkansas. They were the parents of 3 children.

They lived in a number of places over the years, including San Antonio, Texas; Washington, D. C.; and Wood River, Madison County, Illinois.

Thomas was a carpenter for Anheiser Busch and worked there until his retirement.

The Bellings eventually moved to Edgemont, Arkansas.

Thomas died of a heart attack at Van Buren Hospital in Clinton, Arkansas. At the time of his death, he was 67 years, 5 months and 26 days old.

He was survived by his wife, Jean; 1 son of Granite City, Illinois; 2 daughters, 1 of Granite City and the other of East Alton, Illinois; and 2 sisters, Clara Johnson of Lamar, Arkansas, and Hettie Boley of Russellville, Arkansas.

Visitation was held on 16 Nov 1978 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. The body was cremated and services were conducted graveside at 10:30 a.m. the following morning.
