Mary Rose Metcalf
July 23,1931-Nov 14,2012

Mary Rose Bennett Metcalf was born to John and Bernice Bennett on July 23, 1931 in Hay Springs. She had three brothers Keith, Dean, and Steve. The Bennett family farm was located 17 miles south of Hay Springs at what was called Bennett Corner, where the family raised purebred Hereford cattle. As a young girl Mary loved a little Scottie dog and enjoyed riding horse a couple of miles to attend school at district #93. During high school Mary boarded in town and it was in her home economics class that she became very proficient in sewing. IN fact, she was known as a perfectionist with her beautiful sewing and quilting through the years. Mary graduated from Hay Springs High School in May of 1949. The next month she married Neamon "Pat" Metcalf on June 19, 1949 in the old Hay Springs Methodist Church. Pat and Mary recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Besides being a beautiful seamstress, Mary kept a spotless house, and was an excellent cook. She made fancy desserts when entertaining her Bridge Club. For many years Mary was the Girls State Coordinator for the Legion Auxiliary. She also loved to go to auctions with Iris and Helen and usually came back with pretty dishes to add to her collection. For over 30 years Mary was a secretary for the Hay Springs School system. Mary obviously had a love for the school kids and enjoyed the many years she was able to work with them. Pat and Mary had two boys. John passed away in 1992. Pat and Mary were able to do a lot of traveling during their 63 years. They enjoyed taking their motor home to Yellowstone numerous times. They also traveled to Europe twice, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, England, Ireland, and Wales. They also spent one summer in Alaska.
