Jesse W. Stafford, 63, of Jonesboro died Friday evening at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.


Born at Pontiac, Mich., Jesse grew up in Rector and was a 1967 graduate of Rector High School. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War.


Jesse was a graduate of Arkansas State University, a certified public accountant and a certified personal financial specialist. Jesse lived in Memphis before moving to Jonesboro in 1977. He was the founder and managing partner of Stafford & Associates Ltd. in Jonesboro, as well as the founder of Stafford Wealth Management.


Jesse was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Arkansas Society of CPAs and the North East Arkansas CPA where he served in various offices.


He was member of the University Rotary Club since 1991 and served at the local level as club secretary and treasurer. Jesse also served on the Polio Eradication Committee and the Rotary Foundation Committee. At the district level, he also held the office of treasurer for seven years and is a Rotary Foundation sustaining life member. Over the years with Rotary, he was awarded several honors including the Paul Harris Fellow multiple times, as well as Major Donor, Humanitarian Award and the Bequest Society.


Jesse served as a board member of the Arkansas Community Foundation and was a holder of the Golden Key Society Award. He also served on the board of directors of the NEA Humane Society for four years and was chairman for two years, being honored as Volunteer of the Year for 2008.


He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Stafford; his mother, Oleda Presson Stafford Ford; his brother, Jimmy Dale Stafford; and his stepfather, Boyd Ford.


Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sandra Stafford of the home; two sons, Jess Stafford (Beth) of Jonesboro and John Stafford of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; his stepmother, Viva Stafford of Paragould; 3 sisters, Carolyn Vines (Rudy) of Paragould, Laurie Adams (Dennis) of Hot Springs, and Marty Parks (Woody) of Southaven, Miss.; his sister-in-law, Karen Stafford of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Colin Stafford and Lily Stafford.


Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Denny Beavers officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 tonight at Emerson Funeral Home.


The staff of Stafford & Associates Ltd. will serve as honorary pallbearers.
