John was the son of the late Carroll and Pauline Mehalic Jay.
He worked for Sheet and Tube Co. in Campbell as a quality control supervisor for 31 years and then worked for Northstar Steel for 13 years, retiring in 2003.
John was a member of the Girard Athletic Boosters for 25 years having held the position as secrectary-treasurer. He loved boating at Conneaut Lake and golfing.
He is survived by his children, John (Cynde) Jay of Conneaut Lake, Pa., James (Tina) Jay of Jacksonville, Fla., Jeffrey (Darice) Jay of Girard and Peggy (Gary) Kay of Liberty Township; grandchildren Ryan and Jessica Jay, Bryanna and Callie Jay, CJ (Kim) Kay and Capt. Christine Kay; and brother Clinton (Ruth) Jay of Palm Dessert, Calif.
Preceded in death was his wife, the former Margaret "Susie" Reitz, whom he married April 25, 1957, and died June 5, 2009, and his sister, Phyllis Jay.
Interment will take place at Girard City Cemetery.
