Services for Robert Lee Sackmaster, 75, of 1320 W. Flamingo, Nampa, who died Sunday, Oct. 23, at a Nampa hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Howard R. Olson, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Don Cowley, both of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Interment with graveside rites by Ashlar Lodge 90, A.F. & A.M., will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Services and interment are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.

He was born June 25, 1906, at Tomah, Wis., to Henry and Almeda Sackmaster. He was reared and attended schools in Superior, Wis. After his schooling he worked on the ore boats on the Great Lakes. He then went to work as a fireman for the Great Northern Railroad in Wisconsin.

He later became a pilot and began giving scenic flights to passengers.

He married Verona M. Werry on Sept. 22, 1931, in an airplane 10,000 feet above Seattle, Wash. They resided in Seattle and he went to work for Union Pacific Railroad.

During World War II he was a troop train engineer. After the war they remained in Seattle until 1950 when they moved to Portland, Ore. He worked for the railroad in Portland, retiring as an engineer in January of 1974. After his retirement he operated a train for children at the Portland Zoo.

They came to Nampa in 1977 where they have since made their home. He attended the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Nampa Fellowship Bible Study Group, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, life member the Union Pacific Old Timers Club, honorary members of the Union Pacific Junior Old Timers Clubs, member of the OX5 Aviation Pioneers Oregon Wing, the Good Sam Club and a member of Kenton Lodge 145 A.F. & A.M. of Portland.

He is survived by his wife of Nampa; two sons, Jerry R. Sackmaster and Robert D. Sackmaster, both of Spokane; two sisters, Mrs. Jocine Tappe, Portland, and Mrs. Gladys Wieland, Kent, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Mrs. Jocine Wiebold, one brother and one sister.
