Stricken by Heart Attack, Retired D. & H. Man, Drops Dead in Associated Office

While sitting at the information desk in the New York State Electric and Gas corporation's office on Main street, chatting with a member of the staff, John Pearson, aged 71, of 14 Ceperley avenue, dropped dead at 10:45 yesterday morning. He had suffered for some time from heart trouble, which was the cause of his death, according to Dr. N.W. Getman, coroner.

Mr. Pearson complained of feeling ill, and when a drink of water failed to refresh him, he was given an ammonia inhaler. He feel dead, however, before the seriousness of his condition could be realized. Though in poor health for some years, he had been feeling well lately, members of the family said.

He was a former D. & H. employee, having retired on pension in 1933, after 40 years of service.

His funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from his late home at 14 Ceperley avenue. Rev. L.C. Hawver will be in charge, and burial will be in the family plot at Plains cemetery.

Born October 30, 1964, at Ashford, Kent, England, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Tamsett) Pearson, he came to this country when about 20 years old, and for nearly 52 years made his home in Oneonta. He worked five years as blacksmith's helper for the D. H. railroad, and 35 years in its local storeroom. He was known for his memory, his methodical care in all his work, his interest in his home, and his geniality which won him a host of friends.

Mrs. Pearson, formerly Mrs. Anna N. Frank, whom he married November 24, 1934, survives. He was married thrice previously: February 21, 1891, to Miss Jane Baker, who died early in 1914; October 30, 1914, to Mrs. Mary Grant, whose death occurred in 1928; and in June 1931, to Mrs. Ella Champlin, who passed away February 19, 1933.

Other survivors are: Three sons, John Pearson of Schenectady, Harold Pearson of Amsterdam, and Carl Pearson of South Side, Oneonta; one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Mae Copping of Schenectady; a sister, Miss Sarah Pearson of Otego; two other sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Day and Mrs. Anna Kimber, and three brothers, James, Harry and Samuel Pearson, all residing in England; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.["Oneonta Daily Star, Page 6, Oneonta, Otsego, New York, June 3, 1936."]
