There is also a Cenotaph for him located in the Negley family burial plot. His remains were never recovered.

Descendant of Major Edward Burleson

Lieutenant Negley was named after his grandfather, Albert S. Burleson, Postmaster-General in the Cabinet of President Woodrow Wilson. He was the great-great-grandson of General Edward Burleson, Vice-President of the Republic of Texas. His military awards include the Purple Heart.

Albert Negley Dies on Jap Prison Ship
Second Lieut. Albert Sidney Burleson Negley, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard V.W. Negley of San Antonio, was killed December 15 on the Jap transport sunk in Subic Bay by American air action, the War Department has notified his parents.

After the surrender in the Philippines he remained a prisoner of war of the Japs in the camp at Cabanatuan until taken on board the transport for transfer to the Philippines.

His death was preceded by that of his youngest brother, Lieutenant Richard V.W. Negley Jr., who was killed in February 1942 in air action against the Japs over the Java Sea. He is survived by another brother, Lieut. William Negley now stationed at Fort Sam Houston.

Lieutenant Albert Negley was born in San Antonio February 10, 1913. He received his elementary education at Travis and Mark Twain Schools and graduated at Phillips Exeter Academy in 1931, Yale University in 1935 and the Law School of the University of Texas in 1938.

He was living in Manila when the Japanese attacked in December 1941 and immediately enlisted in the air forces. He was assigned to duty with ground troops and later was commissioned by General MacArthur. He served through the series of action that ended with the surrender of Bataan.
