Mr. C. N. Beardsley died Thursday evening, November 19th, at Immanuel hospital, Mankato, where he had been taken for treatment. Owing to his weakened condition it was known early in the week that there was no hope for his recovery, and so his last days were made as comfortable as possible, and death came to the patient peacefully at five o'clock that evening. The surgeons gave no hope after an operation disclosed his serious condition due to abscess of the bowels, from which he had suffered for several months. Although it had seemed doubtful for some time if his case would yield to treatment, the report of his death was none the less sad news to the people of this community where he had lived for many years, as few men have more friends than did Norm Beardsley.
Charles Norman Beardsley was born March 9, 1863, at Owatonna, Minn., being in his fifty-fourth year at the time of his death. He was married to Eva Smith at Elysian, on December 25, 1880, who with four daughters and one son survive him. He had been a resident of this vicinity since childhood, except for a few years when the family lived a Le Sueur Center, where he operated a saw mill, afterward moving to Waterville. He united with the M. E. church a few years ago. He was a charter member of Elysian Lodge No. 16 W. O. W., and the members of that society attended the funeral in a body. The funeral was conducted at the M. E. church by Rev. Langreil on Sunday afternoon and was largely attended.
