He was born March 8, 1918 in Spring Creek, PA, graduated from Corry High School in Corry, PA, and attended Taylor University in Upland, IN.
Mr. Armitage was a dairy farmer and mechanic. He then became an electrical engineer and worked for companies in Cincinnati, OH, Philadelphia, PA, Indianapolis, IN, and Bloomington, IL. He later lived in Elizabethtown, KY, then Florida prior to coming to Muncie.
He loved to deer hunt, was a handyman, volunteered many hours at Grace Baptist Church, and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Armitage, to whom he had been married 66 years; and two grandchildren, Danita Armitage and Drew Armitage.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church, 6401 River Road, Muncie, IN, with Rev. Bob Winebarger and Rev. Rory Bond officiating. Burial will be at noon on Tuesday at East Branch Cemetery in Corry, PA. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the services at the church on Monday.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Dwayne Adrian, and the staff of the 4th, 5th and 9th floors at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital for the care given to Mr. Armitage.
