June Gilkison Lambard Long, 93, died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA.
Born June 7, 1919, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Lola Moine Arnold Gilkison and Warren Lindley Gilkison, she graduated from Terre Haute's Wiley High School in 1937. In her youth many weekends and summers were involved with the promotion of her father's invention, the folding camping trailer. Her love of music started at a young age with voice training and solo performances. With her husband Allen Cannon Lambard, she and her family were stationed at various military bases where she directed children and adult choirs. After moving to Alexandria in 1959 she became a member of the St. James Episcopal Church choir and participated with the All That Jazz Singers as well as the Louisiana College Crossroad Singers. Inspired by a trip to Japan in the 1950s, she studied Ikebano and the art of contemporary flower design which led to her becoming a nationally accredited flower show judge with the Louisiana Garden Club Federation. In 1965 she was one of fourteen selected from across the United States to compete in the Jackson-Perkins Sterling Bowl Tournament in Newark, NY in which she received Honorable Mention. Having graduated from the Buddy Benz School of Floral Design in 1965, June earned her floral license and opened her business, June Lambard Floral Designer, specializing in weddings. She retired from the floral business in 1988 and pursued her interest in painting as an artist in residence at River Oaks. Her paintings have received awards in the Tom Peyton Memorial Art Festival and the Contemporary Artist Guild of which she was president in 1991.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, David Allen Lambard; her first husband, Allen Cannon Lambard and husband Julian Edward Long.
She is survived by her son Allen Cannon Lambard Jr. and wife Peggy of Haughton, LA; her son Dr. Warren William Lambard and wife Georgia of Minden, LA; her daughter Lisa Lambard Norman and husband Stephen of Alexandria, LA; grandchildren Dr. Brooke Lambard Kyle and husband Chris of Eugene, OR; Luke Gilkison Lambard and wife Kelly of Dallas, TX; Dr. Piper Lambard Norton and husband Patrick of College Station, TX; Catherine Norman Stead and husband Mark and Laura Norman Clerc and husband Brian of Dallas, TX; Matthew Stephen Norman and wife Sarah of Muenster, Germany; and Melissa Hope Norman of Baton Rouge, LA; step-grandchildren Ranee Lynn Martin and Lexie Mikal Martin of Minden, LA; great-grandchildren Piper Katherine, Preston Charles and Pace Creighton Kyle of Eugene, OR; Mason Donald and Grant Stephen Stead, Emma June Clerc and Holden Luke Lambard of Dallas, TX.
