Richard Youngless, 72, Nordson supervisor

He was born Aug. 26, 1928 in Amherst, and had been a lifelong resident. He graduated from Amherst Central High School in 1946. Youngless was employed by the Nordson Corp., Amherst, for 40 years, retiring as the supervisor of the maintenance department in 1993. Following retirement he worked part time at Willow Hardware, Lorain. He operated a small handyman business out of his home for over 50 years.

He was a member of the St. peter's United Church of Christ, Amherst, serving two years as a trustee and as a member of the Church Council. He was a member of the CHI-RHO couples club at the church. He was a member of the Senior Citizens of Amherst and the Amherst Eagles Aerie 1442. He was active in the National Good Sam Club, County Road Chapter 47, and served as its treasurer for six years. He was an Amherst JAY-CEE and served as the Junior Chamber of Commerce treasurer for five years. He served for five years as scout master for the Boy Scout Troop 427, Amherst, and for two additional years as the assistant master of Boy Scouts. He received the Amherst Richard Zilch Mano of the Year Award. He enjoyed camping, woodworking and was an avid hunter and Indians fan.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley M. (nee Outland); son, Michael W. of South Amherst; daughter, Patricia Thompson of Lorain; seven grandchildren and a sister, Delores Gullett of Clearwater, Fla. he was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rose (nee Berger) Youngless.

Friends may call Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Services will be Tuesday 111 a.m. at the St. Peter United Church of Christ, 582 Church St., Amherst. The Rev. Edward O. Hale will officiate. Burial will follow in Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
