Hilda Gertrude Temple (nee: Binder), 82 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a lengthy illness. She was born January 16, 1926 in Elyria where she was raised. Hilda was a graduate of Clearview High School. Amherst has been her home for fifty years.
Hilda was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst where she was active in the Willing Workers, formerly the Friendship Club. Her hobbies included feeding and watching the birds and she was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include her sons, Terry Temple of Cave Creek, Arizona and Timothy Temple of Amherst; her daughters Candice Fike and Pamela Obbey, both of Amherst, and her daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Joseph Given of South Amherst; six grandchildren; one great grandson; and her sister Eleanor Northeim of Amherst.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years Robert B. Temple on July 6, 2004; by her son Gary Temple in 1997; by her grandchildren Emily Temple, Rebecca Temple, and Michael Temple; by her parents Otto and Hilda Binder (nee: Bohn); and by her brother Herbert "Harp" Binder in 2001.
Friends may call Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday March 7, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church; 115 Central Dr., Amherst. The Rev. Terrance Adamson, pastor , will officiate. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
