Amherst-A six year old boy attempting to climb through a garage window at his home was killed yesterday when the window slammed shut on his neck, suspending him outside the garage.
Todd Nickolls, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Nickolls, 166 Elyria Ave., was pronounced dead at Amherst Hospital about 11:15 a.m. yesterday.
Lorain County Coroner, Dr. William Kishman listed the cause of death as suffocation due to hanging. he ruled the death accidental.
Kishman said the boy was apparently playing alone and was attempting to climb through a sash-type window in his family's garage when the widow closed on his neck. The boy's boys was suspended from the window outside the garage, strangling him, Kishman said.
He was reportedly discovered by his mother.
He was a kindergarten pupil at Shupe School in Amherst and he was a member of the Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ.
Born Nov. 15, 1969, he is survived by his parents Wayne E. and Sharon E. Nickolls, Amherst; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Womack; Amherst; great-grandmother, Mrs. Ora Osberg, Mckeesport, Pa., and great-grandparents, Mr and Mrs. James Dunham, Elyria.
Friends will be received in the Garland Funeral Home, Amherst, tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Gravesde services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Crownhill Cemetery in Amherst with the Rev. P William Vander-Wyden, pastor of the Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ.
