Alan Lee Palmer, 83, a retired union official, died Thursday in his Logan Square home.
In 1948, Mr. Palmer helped found the International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Technical, Salaried and Machine Workers. He was elected district president and later was a vice president. He retired in 1967 and spent much of his time traveling and collecting rocks with his wife, Therese, who died in 1982.
