'Virginia Publick Claims, Loudoun County,' (Iberian Pub Co, Athens, GA), p 6].

Stephen Lay removed to Fayette Co, KY. On 18 Mar 1809 Stephen & Nancy were received into the Boone's Creek Baptist Church and are listed as "white members" of the Boone's Creek Baptist Church, Elkhorn Group, taken at the separation of the church in January 1811. Issa Horseman, William Tinsley, Joseph Barker, Daniel & Penny Lay are listed as later members. On 26 Feb 1813 "…Stephen Lay & his wife Nancy, William, his servant, & Issy Horseman was (sic) all dismissed as they were going to move out of the bounds of the church…" [Boone's Creek Baptist Church, KY Elkhorn Group 1811-1835, Mss 286.1769, B644r, V 1-2].

Stephen Lay died between July 1814 and January 1815. His wife, Nancy Kitchen Lay, died 1840. Both are buried on the bluff on the farm now owned by the Peake family. The cemetery originally was situated next to an orchard. Decades later the orchard disappeared and eventually the Peake family incorporated the cemetery in a hog lot. By 19 Feb 1991 no tombstones were visible. The Wilson family moved some of the monuments to Illinois when they migrated. Thomas & Sarah Lay Barker, Ambrose & Parthenia Lay Wilson, and members of the Horseman family are also buried there.
