Mary Elizabeth MacDonald (she used Mac and Mc) was the daughter of Mary MacDonald, Mary was not married and no father was listed on the birth certificate. She was born in Greenfield, Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada. She was raised with her first cousin's on a farm in the 4th Concession, Kenyon Township, Glengary County, Ontario, Canada, where she was known as Libbie. She left Canada when she was about 16 years of age. It has been reported that she stayed with her mother and stepfather Joseph C Kelly in New York where she worked in a haberdashery. About 1900 She moved to San Francisco California with a wealthy family where she worked as a nanny. In 1902 she was employed as a secretary in Los Angeles. In about 1908 she was reunited with her childhood friend Daniel Charles McDonnell, who had been raised on an adjacent farm in Canada. On 22 Feb 1909, Elizabeth and Daniel were married at Spokane Washington. They made their home in a small settlement called Bingville above Mullan Idaho where Daniel worked at the Morning Mine. Their first child Sadie Marie was born at Spokane Washington, 25 Jan 1910. Anna Cecilia was born at Mullan, 17 Mar 1912. Charles Ambrose was born 9 Oct 1914, also at Mullan. Daniel and Elizabeth bought property and moved to Bank Street in Wallace Idaho. On 12 Apr 1923 Daniel died at their home on Bank Street. Elizabeth found work at the Hecla Mine Company, she retired there in 1942 and moved to Riggins Idaho. Elizabeth was very devoted to the Catholic religion and was a member of St. Jerome's Church in Riggins. Mary Elizabeth McDonell passed away 1 Aug 1972 at the Parkhill Manor in Grangeville Idaho, and was laid to rest at the Cottonwood Catholic Cemetery in Cottonwood Idaho.
