Ruth “Marie” Morris, 82, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021. She was a native of Bertie County, NC, and had been a resident of Newport News for over 55 years. Marie was an Administrative Tech for the City of Newport News, a Pharmacy Tech for People’s Drug Store, and a school bus driver. She attended and was a member of Morrison Methodist Church.

Marie loved gardening, garage sales, thrift stores, and spending time with her family. She was a strong woman who fought through her illnesses to stay strong for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Morris, Sr., parents, William and Ruth Jackson, sister, Jerri Brown, and brother, Bill Jackson. Marie is survived by two daughters, Lisa Morris and Teresa Portlock (Curtis), two sons, Bobby Lee Morris, Jr. and Hobert “Hobie” Morris; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Frances Farless; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Consulate Healthcare of Windsor employees for their loving care of Marie for the last four years. Respects may be given to Marie and the family on Tuesday, February 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA. Facial masks and social distancing will be required. Burial will take place at Peninsula Memorial Park at a later date.
