Theron Stanley Pounds Sr., 66, of Booneville, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville after brief illness.

Services were Thursday, Oct. 7, at 4:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Booneville with the Rev. William V. Kemp, assisted by the Revs. Charles Potts and E. S. Furr, officiating. Burial was in Booneville Cemetery. Salts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pounds had been the owner of Service Insurance and Pounds Realty in Booneville since 1947, and was a retired employee of the U. S. Postal Service where he had worked for 32 years. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and a veteran of World War II where he served as a major in the Marine Corp.

Mr. Pounds had been a member of the Board of Directors of the Peoples Bank and Trust Company in Tupelo for 17 years. He also served on the Executive Committee, Insurance Committee, Loan Committee, Trust Committee, Budget Committee and Audit Committee.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a past chairman of the Board of Stewards and past chairman of the Finance Committee. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, a Mason, and a former member of the Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Pounds; two sons, Stan Pounds of Booneville and Jim Pounds of Jackson, Miss. ; four sisters, Mrs. Ortha Long, Mrs. Opha White and Mrs. Marie Gullett, all of Booneville and Mrs. Betty Crawford of Farmington, Mich.; one brother, Billy Pounds of Columbus, Miss., and three grandchildren.
