When he was 16 years old, Ben lost sight in his right eye when hit with a stick while playing a game. Within a couple years the infection continued to his other eye. By 1939 total sight in both eyes were lost. During WW II he became an inspector at Northrups of air craft parts due to his skill and knowledge. Later on he became a skilled cabinet maker. He was very strong willed, most just called him stubborn. He wouldn't get rid of anything saying he never knew when he might need it. In 1944, he married Ruby Nelson (1909-1988) and they lived in Highland Park, Calif. Later on they moved to San Jacinto.
Following their separation, Ben lived in Norco, Los Angeles, Riverside and the last 15 years of his life at a care facility in Covina.
