On April 22, 1857, he married Charlotte Bass Cozzens of Vernon, New York. They were the parents of three children: Carolyn, Henry Cozzens and John Paul.

Washington, May 12. Henry M. Knox, for many years a resident of St. Paul and a brother of the late John J. Knox, for several years Comptroller of the Currency, died tonight, aged 74 years. At one time he was Public Examiner of Minnesota.
