Stanley Koehmstedt, 97, of Langdon, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012, at the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND.
Stanley was born June 15, 1915 to Peter and Cecilia (Schneider) Koehmstedt on the family farm near Dresden, ND. He attended country schools including the Minto Township school and went on to Langdon High School where he graduated in the class of 1934. Stanley enjoyed playing basketball in High School. Having graduated during the heart of the depression, work was difficult to find so Stanley and "Klink" Kleinschmidt traveled to Minnesota to shuck corn. Stanley was the last surviving laborer that had built what is now the Dresden Museum. Stanley entered the United State Army in 1941 and served in the Philippines. Stanley earned the Bronze Star Medal and was Honorably Discharged in 1945.
Stanley was united in marriage to Alma LeMieux Chaput, mother of Denny, Jimmy and Audrey Chaput on October 26, 1948 in Langdon. Stanley and Alma went on to welcome a daughter, Nola to the family. They made their home in Langdon, and Stanley farmed the land his father homesteaded near Dresden. Stanley enjoyed curling, bowling , dancing and meeting friends for coffee at the Bread Pan. He enjoyed spending time in Arizona during the winter months with friends Annie & Jerry Johnson.
Stanley is survived by children Nola (Koehmstedt) and her husband Tom Borgen of Langdon, ND and Audrey (Chaput) and her husband Bob Austin of New Prague, MN. Stanley's numerous grandchildren include Holly Mortensen of Brighton, MI, Heather Sorum of Detroit Lakes, MN, Jennifer (Kevin) Goetz of Fargo, ND, Julie Austin of Minneapolis, Brian Austin of Minneapolis, Paul (Paula) Chaput of McHenry, IL, Steven (Randee) Chaput, Martin Chaput, Lisa Chaput, and numerous others along with six great-grandchildren and dear friend Jim Johnson.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alma, and siblings: Althea Rose, Edward, Walter, Francis and Dorothy Ann Finnigan.
VISITATION will begin at 5pm with a 7pm Prayer Service at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND on Sunday, November 18, 2012.
SERVICES Monday, November 19, 2012 at 2:00pm at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon.
INTERMENT Calvary Cemetery, Langdon, ND.
