Evelyn Virginia Bird Linton, 90, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at a local hospital after being in a coma for 17 days. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Monday in Mount Olivet Chapel. A second funeral will be held in Fredericksburg, Va., with burial in the Mount Comfort Cemetery near Alexandria, Va. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in honor of Evelyn Linton to the American Heart Association and/or the American Diabetes Association . Mrs. Linton was known as "Polly" to her Texas relatives and friends and as "Birdie" to her friends and relatives in Virginia. She was the fourth born of 16 children, eight boys and eight girls. Mrs. Linton was born in the Birdville area of Fort Worth on May 17, 1922, to Jeff Augustus "Gus" Bird (1893-1954) and Clara Myrtle Gray-Sadler Bird (1900-1988). In 1940, after graduating from Riverside High School, she traveled to Washington, D.C., to find work. She met and married Kirk Louis Linton in 1944. Mrs. Linton was a housewife for over 30 years on the family farm located in Fairfax County, Va. In 1985, they moved to Fredericksburg, Va., after her husband's retirement from the RF&P Railroad. She returned to Texas in 1988 after her husband's death. Mrs. Linton worked at the Library of Congress cafeteria and then in the Pentagon's Railroad Department during the early years of World War II. She served as the secretary of the Great Meadows Little League baseball league in the Mount Vernon, Va., area for 19 years. She also served as secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years. She too, was the secretary of the Great Meadows Civic Association during the 1950s. Mrs. Linton became a talented porcelain painter in the 1970s, winning over 50 prize ribbons at the local county fairs in Virginia between 1975 and 1985. She served as secretary of the Mount Vernon Porcelain Guild during that time, as well as being a lifetime member. Her hobbies included sewing clothes for relatives and friends, reading, doing word puzzles and traveling the country. Mrs. Linton was a "born again Christian" and was baptized at the Haltom City Church of Christ. Survivors: Sons, Kenneth E. Linton of Bedford and Terry L. Linton of Fredericksburg, Va.; brothers, J.A. Bird of Hawthorne, Calif., and Franklin D. "Buddy" Bird of Haltom City; sisters, Margaret D. Norwood of Riverside, Frances D. Shivers of Southlake, Mary L. Gill of Haltom City, Patricia M. Bronstad of Austin, Beatrice J. Jensen of Kerrville; grandchildren, Nancy Hall, Karen Hinkson, Travis Linton, Wade Linton, Creation Robinson, Autumn Robinson; and great-grandchildren, Blake Hinkson, Trent Hinkson, Alexandra Linton, Jacqueline Linton and Elijah Linton.
