Jay David Stewart of Dallas, formerly of Archer City, passed away on Nov. 15, 2012 in Dallas.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Archer City with Roger Deerinwater, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. A private interment will follow in the Roscoe Cemetery in Roscoe, Tex. under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.

Jay, the son of the late Reverend J. D. Stewart and Mozelle Dement Stewart, also of Dallas, was born on Nov. 7, 1954 in Leavenworth, Kan.

He and Jannie Purcell were married July 16, 1994 in Archer City.

He graduated from Southwest Baptist University in 1977. Jay taught in the public school system for more than 28 years in positions ranging from music teacher to a special needs teacher. Additionally, he had a long career as a church pianist and organist. In 1994, he was Elementary Teacher of the Year for Archer City ISD. He was a proud member of the Archer City Picture Show Players from 1993-1995 and he was a former member of the Singing Men of North Central Texas.

Jay found comfort in the words of the hymn, "Amazing Grace" and by his own confession, believed he was ready to meet his Maker.

He is survived by his wife Jannie Purcell Stewart of Dallas; a son, Jason Stewart of Fort Worth; a daughter, Lena Stewart of Fort Worth; and his mother, Mozelle Stewart of Dallas. He is also survived by three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Royal Theater, P.O. Box 877, Archer City, Tex., 76351.
