A native of Minneapolis, Mr. Tyler came to Chicago in the 1940s and received a degree in business administration from Northwestern University. An avid photographer, he took pictures for the Chicago Daily Defender during the 1940s.
Mr. Tyler, chairman of several committees at St. Edmund Episcopal Church, had been senior warden in the vestry and lay reader there.
Among his appraisal clients were some of the oldest black financial institutions in the city, including Illinois Service Federal Savings & Loan, Seaway National Bank and Independence Bank of Chicago.
