J Pink Patterson came to Tyler in 1848. The newspaper referred to him as "the oldest inhabitant of Tyler." He was engaged in the mercantile business before his retirement.

Mr. Patterson died June 26, 1911, at the age of 64. He was survived by his wife and children: Mrs. Will Hunter, San Angelo; Mrs. J.B. Mayfield, Mrs. Guss Caldwell, Misses Pearl and Ruth Patterson, and Joe Patterson, all of Tyler. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
