Edgar G. McArthur, 66, for nine years sheriff of Scott county, died at his home in Maquoketa on Saturday morning at 4:30. He held the shrievalty in this county from 1897 until 1906. After his retirement from that position in 1906, he built a home near Pleasant Valley, and resided there for a number of years, his place being known as McArthur's station, now the McClelland summer home adjoining the summer home of Joe R. Lane. Five years ago, after disposing of the property, Mr. McArthur removed to Maquoketa. Mr. McArthur was formerly exceedingly active in Republican party affairs, and participated in many campaigns here.
He was born March 4, 1856, and was united in marriage 32 years ago to Miss May Scott, who survives him besides one brother, George of Smith Center, Kan., James of Creston, Ia., and two sisters, Mrs. Adam Littig and Miss Etta McArthur of Davenport. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 with burial at Maquoketa.
