Harriet was the daughter of Lewis and Mary "Polly" Jordan Wilburn. She was the wife of Madison Farley.

Harriet M Farley, familiarly known as "Aunt Harriet," whose maiden name was Wilburn, was born near Pearisburg, Giles county, Va, May 10, 1832. In Oct, 1852, she was married to Madison Farley, of Pipestem, now Summers county, W Va. In 1857she united with the Southern Methodist church and being soundly converted to Christianity, she lived a consistent Christian life until her death, which occurred Sept 10th, 1915. Her age was 83 years and 4 months.
Her marriage to "Uncle Mat" (as we commonly called him,) was blessed with five sons and four daughters, two of whom - one son and one daughter - preceded her to the "glory land." The seven left to mourn her departure are: H F Farley, living near Athens, W Va; W O, R H and W J Farley, of Pipestem; also Mrs J M Farley, of Pearisburg, Va, Mrs W W Foster, of Pocahontas, Va, and Mrs C M Vest, of Pipestem. All of which are noble sons and daughters - leaders in the church and society.
Aunt Harriet lived a consecrated Christian life and her religious influence will be realized until time shall be no more.
At home with her family, at church or associated with friends, she lost no opportunity to tell her love for Jesus and hope of a home beyond. She often talked about her departed husband and prayed that the time would soon come when the good Lord would take her to her sweet home in heaven.
On the morning of Sept 10th, 1915, at her old home where her son, W J Farley, now resides, before the morning stars blushed and gave away before the sun, her guardian Angel kissed her breath away and Jesus, whom she so much loved, folded her in his loving arms and soared away to realms of eternal bliss.
Her funeral was conducted by Rev J W Watkins, of the Methodist church, and her body was placed in a grave beside her husband on a little knoll overlooking her home in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends.
