The Current Local, Van Buren, Missouri, April 2009: George Elvin Tilley, son of the late Rufus Arnold and Grace Myrtle (Sears) Tilley, was born on Nov. 21, 1934, in Ellsinore, Mo., and departed this life Apr. 16, 2009, in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He had attained the age of 74 years, four months and 25 days. Mr. Tilley was a lifetime resident of Ellsinore, and was a former foundry worker for the railroad. He also worked in sawmills and cut firewood and brush. He was a member of the Soul's Harbor Pentecostal Church and was baptized in February of 2009. He liked cats and just being on the old farm. Survivors include one brother, Willis Tilley of Nevada, Mo.; three sisters, Gladys Powell of Earlimart, Calif., Betty Zinn of Lemay, Mo., and Mary Tilley of Cottage Grove, Ore., and many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Clinton, Clyde, Wilbert, and Gilbert Tilley; and one sister, Mary Vickers. The funeral was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 20, 2009, in the Souls Harbor Church in Van Buren, Mo., with Rev. Chuck Browning officiating. Music was by Sharon Carr. Burial was in Gresham Cemetery, northeast of Van Buren. McSpadden Funeral Home of Van Buren in charge of arrangements.
