The Current Local, Van Buren, Missouri, July 12, 1978, Front Page, Col. 1: Oscar L. Rodgers, 88, Passed Away Monday. Oscar L. Rodgers, 88-year-old farmer of Van Buren passed away early Monday, July 10, 1978 at the Lucy Lee Hospital in Poplar Bluff. death was due to cancer, following a two-year illness. Mr. Rodgers had lived in Van Buren 34 years. He was born Jan. 1, 1890 on Bushy Creek and spent his childhood there and attended school there. He was married to Zella O'Dell April 15, 1915, and she passed away in 1919. He married Elsie Buchanan on Aug. 18, 1920 at Van Buren General Baptist Church and served as a deacon. During World War I he served in the Infantry. Surviving besides his wife, Elsie, are one son, Ervin of Van Buren, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One infant daughter preceded him in death. The funeral was scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in McSpadden Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bob Bradford officiating with burial in the Gresham Cemetery.
