Captain CSA 21st Regt., Virginia Infantry. Killed in the Civil War.

Shown in the 1850 census for Pittsylvania Co., Northern District as being 14 years of age. His family was listed as: Rebecca Farmer--51, his mother; Lucy--21; Rhoda--18; Chesley--14; Sally--11; and Eliza--10.

In 1860, Pittsylvania Co., Va., Northern District, the family was shown as: Rebecca Farmer--63; Chesley H.--24, a farmer; Eliza B.--20; and Alice A. Watson--7, of unknown relationship to the family.

He was a son of Newton and Rebecca D. Butler Farmer.
