Ellen was born June 5, 1925, at Whitmer, a daughter of the late Delmar and Patsy Elza Nelson.
Ellen was twice married, first to Charles R. Griffith, who preceded her in death April of 1959, and then she married James Lawson, who preceded her in death Oct. of 2006.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen Mauldin and husband, Mack, of Hendricks and Sharon Griffith of Morgantown; two brothers, Jason Kimber Nelson and wife, Pearl Ann, of Thomas and Delmar "Junior" Nelson and wife, Terry, of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Patricia Yokum of New Creek; four grandchildren, Ben F. "Buddy" Long and wife, Brenda, of Holly Meadows, Christy Murray and husband, Kevin, of Morgantown, Sue Ellen Shrout of Nashville and Kim Snyder and husband, James, of Parsons; and five great-grandchildren, Adam Lambruno and Emma Snyder, both of Parsons, Evin Murray of Morgantown, Stephanie Long and Ben F. "Benny" Long, both of Holly Meadows.
Preceding her in death are one infant son. James Daniel Griffith; and four brothers, Blake Nelson, Robert Eugene Nelson, Harold Arthur Nelson and James Russell Nelson.
Ellen attended the schools of Whitmer, the schools of Tucker County and was a graduate of Charleston High School at Charleston with the class of 1955. She attended Morris Harvey College at Charleston. She retired from the Kroger Co. after 25 years of service.
She was owner and operator of a pet grooming business while living at Houston, Texas, and she was a real estate agent while a resident of Georgia. She loved to make crafts and was a noted cook. She was a Methodist.
