Caroline Gordon Bass, his wife, has a CSA widow's pension app on line in the GA archives virtual vault. She shows proof of marriage to LT. J. F. Bass on Nov. 9, 1864 in Griffin, Spalding Co, GA. He enlisted in 1864 in Bibb County and was promoted to Lt. in Company A of the 19th Battalion GA Cavalry. That unit was consolidated with Company F of the 10th GA Cav. At the end of the war, he was in Macon, GA in the hospital badly wounded. He died May 25, 1918 in Rome, GA.
