Fatal Accident. Seldom if ever, since the settlement of this town, have its inhabitants been so sadly stricken as by the announcement which was made on Friday morning last, of the death of Dr. J. C. Goodhue. He left home in good health and good spirits to visit a patient some five miles west of the village, and being detained until a late hour, was invited to spend the remainder of the night with a near neighbor, who was also in attendance with the sick patient. He accepted the invitation, and accompanied the neighbor home; but the night was dark, and sad to relate! as he was approaching the entrance of the house a misstep plunged his body into a well, from which he was taken immediately, but as badly injured as to survive only a few hours.--Rockford Forum. Reprinted in
Western Citizen (Chicago), January 11, 1848.
