John Turner, Engineer, Dies At 88

John William Turner, a former resident of this city and a riverboat engineer, died at 9:30 p.m. yesterday at his home in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 88.

He had been in the riverboat business in this city for many years with his brother, Selby, who passed away recently. They owned such well-known riverboats at the R.W. Turner, Revonah, White Dove, Katherine, and others.

He left Madison in 1938 when he retired, and made his home in St. Petersburg. He was a member of the First Baptist church in this city.

His survivors include his wife, Ella; three daughters, Mrs. Charles Stanton, of this city; Mrs. George Bland, Dupont; and Mrs. Bliss Farrell, Madiera Beach, Fla.; a son, Earl, St. Petersburg, Fla.; three brothers; George, Portsmouth, O.; Elmer, route six; and Herbert, of this city; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Field, Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending arrival of relatives. Friends may call at the Vail Funeral Home.
