Laura was born out of wedlock--her parents were teenagers when she was born. Her parents were GEORGE WIRT RANDOLPH (He was 17) and Sarah Margaret Harmon (She was 15) They were in love, wanted to marry and have the baby (Laura). Not sure which side of the Family protested (people whom are still alive on the Thompson side say it was the Randolph family...) Those on the Farmer side only knew the story but NOT who Laura's father was (until DNA) The family story states that one of the families had Indian blood so there would be NO marriage!
(It's been DNA proven that George Wirt Randolph is the father of Laura through living relatives)

Laura was raised by her mother Sarah and her Grand Father Isaac Asbury Harmon.
Sarah went on to marry James Nicholis Thompson in 1876.
George went on to marry Martha Jane "Jennie" Hart

LAURA never ever used the last name RANDOLPH, ever. Laura even named one of her son's George W. (not sure what the W. stands for)

Family story by Laura Minnie Harmon Thompson was that when she was a child, a man used to ride up on a horse and just watch her at play. Many times he would flip a silver dollar to her and then ride off. Laura told this story to all of her children; they all knew that Laura was born out of wedlock and the reasons why.

Laura had seven half siblings.

Laura married John Riley Farmer on 21 Jun 1888 when they were both sixteen years of age in Cyclone Township, McDonald County, MO.

Laura took care of herself and her children for many years. John Riley was not around much.
They had nine children, and all but two grew to adulthood.

Laura used to keep her money rolled up in balls of yarn.
I have a letter telling her children where to find the money upon her death, I also have her Family Bible.

Laura Minnie Harmon Farmer died on 15 Jan 1957 of Cancer in Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma.
