Obituary – Barrick.
Ella Steffa was born in Oregon, Olga county, Illinois, November 26, 1854, died February 26, 1909, died at the age of 54 yrs. 3 mo. She was married to Jacob Barrick in the year of 1876, when they came to Nebraska and settled. To this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter, who with the husband, still survive her, five brothers and two sisters, Jacob Steffa, who resides in Medford, Okla., David, Belle Plaines, Iowa, John, Byron, Ill., William and Frank in Oregon, Ill., Mrs. Barbara Samples, Centralia, Washington and Miss Effie Steffa, Mount Morris, Ill. Sister Barrick was a true Christian having united with the Presbyterian church eleven years ago. Ever-ready to lend a helping hand and give a cheerful word when and whereever she could. Neighbor Barrick was a member of the Royal Neighbor lodge for a number of years and in the loss of neighbor Barrick the order loses a valuable member, she had always the good of the order at heart and a helping hand always extended.
Back to the cold world I will not go
Back to the old paths of pain, of woe,
Back to the old life of sin, O no!
I've found a life that is sweeter to me,
Fuller of joy than the old life could be.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Presbyterian church in Giltner, and was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Bailey of Aurora, assisted by the R. N. A. lodge of which she as a charter member, in Giltner. The Degree of Honor also attended in a body and thus expessed their regard for their departed sister, as she was also a member with them. After the services at the church, the remains were borne to the Seaton cemetery, ¼ mile south of Giltner, and laid to rest. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the stricken husband and children.
