Raymond Bauer Disappears After Falling In Ohio At Foot of Campbell St.
Fishing cost Raymond Bauer, 16 years old, his life when he fell off a sand barge into the Ohio River at the foot of Campbell street about 3:00 Sunday morning.
Bauer, a mechanic's helper, 811 East Washington Street, and two of his friends, Oscar Rauch and Nicholas Furlong, left their homes about 7:00 Saturday night.
They had fished continuously through the early part of the night with mediocre success, according to Rauch and Furlong…and were on a barge belonging to E. T. Slider & Company about 3:00 when it started to rain.
The three youths ran for shelter but Bauer slipped in the wet footing and fell into the river. His companions did not see him return to the surface. They notified the police and the Coast Guard station. Bauer's body was recovered by a crew from the station almost immediately.
He is survived by his brother, Fred Bauer, a carpenter; his mother, Mrs. Bessie Bauer; two brothers, Maurice and Edward; a sister, Anna, and a half-brother, W. H. Smith…. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery.
