MENDON, Ill. -- Sarah Jane Rhine, 93, of Mendon died at 2:30 p.m. Monday (Oct. 20, 2003) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Born Dec. 16, 1909, in Albion, Neb., she was a daughter of William and Estella Leap Snyder. She married the Rev. John Samuel Rhine July 31, 1938, in Gurley, Neb. He died Jan. 16, 1991.
Mrs. Rhine was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Mendon, where she was a member of the Triangle S Sunday School Class and the Builder's Club. She was a graduate of Carthage College and taught 27 years in Mendon and Ursa in the primary department, beginning in one-room schools and continued to volunteer teaching art after her retirement. She was also a member of Adams County Retired Teachers Association, Good Sam Camping Club, North Adams Home Geronteers and Church Women United.
Surviving are a son, Wendell Rhine and his wife, Phyllis, of Bellmont, Mass.; three daughters, LaRue Ungloube and her husband, James, of Libertyville, Marsha Johnson of Akron, Pa., and Rita Frese and her husband, Larry, of Mendon; six grandchildren, Carla Ericson and her husband, Douglas, Andrew Ungloube, Kami Barnes and her husband, Derek, Kris Johnson and his wife, Amy, Heather Martens and her husband, Andy, and Rob Frese; four great-grandchildren, Zach, Nick, Megan and Ben Ericson; and a sister, Wilma Thomas of Lincoln, Neb.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Snyder, and three sisters, Lucille Zichichi, Jean Losey and Dorothy Mintken.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Salem Lutheran Church in Mendon by the Rev. Thomas Kamprath. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church or North Adams Home.
