Wilda Gandy Davis, age 90, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away October 28, 2012 while a resident in Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin, Alabama. She was born on January 04, 1922, in Copiah County, Mississippi, to Abijah Clarence Gandy and Florence Estell Moore Gandy. She was reared in a Christian home and upon becoming a baptized believer at an early age, began serving her childhood church as pianist at age eleven. Her love for her church combined with her study of piano as a student of the regionally noted Lilly V Mullins, formed the basis for her life as a minister's wife. On December 22, 1939, she was married to Purser Smith Davis of Hazlehurst. She remained active in church related activities throughout her married life. Her husband of sixty-three years was inducted into military service in 1944, and after serving in the U.S. Army for two and one half years, the couple returned to their hometown of Hazlehurst, Mississippi where they began a career in the furniture business. Only a short time later, Rev. Davis answered the call into the ministry and became an ordained minister. As pastor and wife, they continued to serve in this capacity for over fifty years.

Mrs. Davis taught public school music and private piano lessons in many areas that were in close proximity to churches where Rev. Davis served as pastor, including locations throughout Mississippi and Alabama. During his ministry, Mrs. Davis assisted her husband as church pianist, and for eleven years, served along with him as choir director of Salem Baptist Church in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. The couple moved to Sulligent in March of 1971, where they continued a joint ministry for the next thirty years. She held fast to her love for church related music and continued to serve for several additional years as church pianist for Mulberry Springs Baptist Church following Rev. Davis' death in July of 2003.

Mrs. Davis accepted with pride the role of devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, which she practiced daily throughout her life.

Survivors include one son: Purser Anthony (Tony) Davis of Sulligent, Alabama, three grandsons: Scott Anthony Davis, and wife, Cindy Blaylock Davis from Greensboro, Georgia, Mark Jason Davis, from Sulligent, Alabama and Steven Brent Davis and wife Denise Carter Davis from Sheffield, Alabama; two great grandsons: Reid Anthony and Logan Andrew Davis; and two surviving sisters: Ms Doris Armstrong of Wesson, Mississippi, and Ms Nancy Ashley of Brandon, Mississippi. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband: Reverend Purser Davis, one son: Sidney Wayne Davis, and two brothers: Wayne Clarence Gandy and Leman Dale Gandy.

Services will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Norwood Funeral Home chapel with burial in Gilmer addition of the Sulligent City Cemetery. Reverend Benton Goodman and Reverend Byron Pickering officiating.

Visitation: Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM just prior to the service time.
