RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Kristen Michelle Phillips, 22, of Richfield Springs and formerly of Schuyler Lake, died unexpectedly Monday night, Sept. 19, 2005, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Verona.

Sh e was born Sept. 26, 1982, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, a daughter of Randy A. and Laurie Ann (Weir) Phillips.

Raised in the Hartwick, Oaksville and Schuyler Lake areas, Kristen attended Cooperstown Central School until the end of eighth grade. At the beginning of her freshman year she enrolled in Richfield Springs Central School and was very involved in their sports programs. A track star, she set many school records, especially in long jump and hurdles, and was ranked third in the state. She also played volleyball and was a cheerleader for several years.

After graduation with the class of 2000, she attended Adirondack Community College and Herkimer County Community College, where she studied elementary education.

Two years ago she moved to Richfield Springs and the past year she had been employed as an account clerk in the district business office of the Richfield Springs Central School.

An avid reader, Kristen was a loving, caring person who was very family oriented and who was a devoted and loving mother to her son, Thomas. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and co-workers.

Krist en is survived by her son, Thomas Leslie Dygert of Richfield Springs; her boyfriend, Chris Furnare of Richfield Springs; her mother, Laurie Denmeade and her significant other, Joseph Pestar of Schuyler Lake; her father, Randy A. Phillips and his wife, Jennifer, of Hartwick; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ethel Weir of Schuyler Lake; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Audrey Phillips of Hartwick; two brothers, Eric R. Phillips and Jeremy Robert Denmeade, both of Schuyler Lake; one sister, Savanna Wart of Hartwick; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Stanley Phillips, who died Feb. 9, 2005; and her maternal grandfather, Leslie Weir, who died July 5, 2005.

A funeral service honoring Kristen's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home with the Rev. John C. Young officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, a time of refreshment and fellowship will be offered at the Hartwick Community Center.

Friends and family may call at the funeral home 9 a.m. Friday morning until service time.

A graveside service will be conducted at a later date in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it is sincerely requested by Kristen's family, that expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts be made to a trust fund to benefit her son, Thomas Leslie Dygert. Checks may be made payable to Phillips Family Memorial Fund, care of Citizen's Bank, PO Box 158, Hartwick, NY 13348. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
