Entrepreneur, Car Collector. He received recognition for co-founding in 1931 with his aunt, Merle Norman, the Merle Norman Cosmetics. With the death of his mother, a nine-year-old Jack Boison Nethercutt became the ward of his aunt, Merle, and her husband Andy Norman. After leaving his studies at California Institute of Technology , he joined with them to develop and manufacturer a high-end complete skin care and makeup program, which is made in the United States. By 1934, the company had opened 94 studios and today, there are 2,700 licensed studios around the world, with the most in North America and 96% owned by women. He became to be known as a respected cosmetic chemist. In 1963 he purchased all of the company's shares belonging to his aunt, her husband, and other shareholders and at that point, he became the company's chief executive officer, creating a firm worth $130 million in sales before his death. He is perhaps better known for using his wealth to assemble one of the world's finest automobile collections. The Nethercutt Collection and Museum, consists of more than 250 vintage cars housed in the Tower of Beauty in Sylmar, California. He started his collection in 1956, purchasing a 1936 Duesenberg convertible roadster for $5,000 and a 1930 DuPont town car for $500. It has become a mecca for car enthusiasts and collectors since it opened in the 1970s. The facility also houses a 15,000 square-foot restoration shop that employs 24 experts on automobile engines, woodwork, metal work, upholstery and leather. To date, millions of people have visited the museum and it's nationally known automobile library. On May 10, 2001, he was named Popular Mechanics Magazine's Man of the Year with the Meguiar's Award. The award honors individuals whose actions have had significant impact on the collector car hobby. His son Jack became the Chairman of the Board for The Nethercutt Collection and President of Merle Norman Cosmetic, Inc, thus having the cosmetic company being family-owned for three generations.
