Born in Austria to Andrew and Anna Mary (Greussing) Blum, Leo Blum came to the USA as a single person on the ship "David Headley", landing Nov. 18, 1857, in New York. He worked as a carpenter for 11 years. He married Mary Victoria Nagel on April 3, 1866 at the Catholic Church in Worth Township. After starting their family, he purchased 140 acres of farmland in Woodford County, IL. On this farm (which is now the Lake Sante Fe subdivision) they raised their five children: Andrew, Alexander, Pauline, Veronica, and August Leo. They were active members of the Catholic church at Lourdes, IL where they are buried. His wife Mary Victoria died one year after Leo's death.
