John Sprock married Marie Brunssen in 1895 in Germany, emigrated to the U.S. in 1903, and settled in Burlington, Iowa, where eight of their nine children lived to adulthood.

He died about December 19, 1938, possibly the 18th, likely in Burlington, where he was buried December 21.
