TRUAX Colonel Roger F. Truax (Retired), AUS, age 91, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2005 at his residence in Columbus, Oh. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Susan (Richard) Perry, Carol (Larry) Smith, and Mary (Tony) Ciavarella; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents, Forrest and Ida Truax; brother, Elwood, and sister, Lucille. He graduated from the Columbus Academy and attended the Ohio State University. A Veteran of WWII, he was inducted into the federal service with the 37th Infantry Division and participated in the campaigns of Guadal Canal, New Georgia, Bouganville and Luzon. Roger received a direct commission overseas and received the Bronze star, the Asiatic pacific and Philippine Liberation Medals. Following release from active duty he rejoined the 37th Infantry Division with its reorganization in the Ohio National Guard. He became the Finance officer for the Adjutant General's Department until 1968, when upon his entry back to active duty he was appointed United States Property and Fiscal Officer for Ohio. He retired from active duty May 1, 1974. A former member of the Ohio Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology. Roger was a member and past president of the Ohio National Guard Association and a recipient of their Distinguished Service Award and Hall of Fame. Member of the 37th Division Association, the Military Officer's Club of Central Ohio, the Association of the United States Army, Member of the Linden Masonic Lodge 637 F&AM. Aladdin Temple Shrine, Military Order of World Wars and Sojourner Club. An Ardent Ohio State Football Fan, he had faithfully attended their games since 1932. Friends may call at the O. R. WOODYARD CO. NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 2990 BETHEL RD., Thursday 6 to 9 p.m., where the service will be held Friday 11 a.m. Rev. Fred Ketner officiating. Interment Union Cemetery. Masonic Service will be held Thursday 7:30 p.m. the funeral home Family suggest contributions be directed to the Shriners Hospital for Children or a charity of choice.
