According to her obituary in the Lusk Free Lance, she grew up in Dallas and other points in Texas. After graduation from high school she enrolled in Hollins College. She married Henry L. Reed in 1893. Originally a member of the Baptist church, she joined the Congregational church in Wyoming there being no Baptist church in the community. She was survived by her husband Henry L. Reed and two step-daughters, Mrs. Pearl Reed Streever, of Billings, Montana and Mrs. Belle Reed Cox, of Cody, Wyoming.

She was probably born in Tyler, Smith County, Texas as her family lived there between 1859 and 1876. Her father was a teacher in Tyler, Dallas, Brenham, and Corsiciana, Texas. He was superintendent of schools in Dallas, Oak Cliff, and other Texas communities. He also taught at Texas A&M College.

She first married Jack Baker, according to the book, Memorial and Biographical History of Dallas County, Texas. She and Henry lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota (1900), Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska (1910), Lusk, Niobrara, Wyoming (1930) according to census records.
