By 1880 William Butler, widowed, lost two infant daughters and his wife during a brief marriage of about two years. He can be found living as a boarder in the house of Charles and Mary J Clark - both age 44 in Fairfax Co Va.

In 1860, William Butler (age 19) is living in Fairfax Co Va in house of brother Richard H Butler (age 29)(head) and sister Virginia Butler (age 21)

Y. Harbor; released 6/21/65 after taking the oath; lived in Clifton; on list of ex-confederates living Fairfax County c. 1898, age 67; member R. E. Lee Camp U.C.V., Alex., Va.; Va. Pensioner, Fairfax County, 1904, $30.00; d. 2/1/1907, age 75; bur. Hollywood Cemetery Richmond; brother of Pvt. William B. Butler, Co. A, 43rd Battalion Va. Cavalry.

Note - there was another Pvt William Butler who died after 06 May 1863 in Chimborazo Hospl, Richmond, VA. Posting for reference until sorted out.

In 1870, William Butler (age 29) is still living in Fairfax Co Va in house of brother Richard H Butler (age 36), his widowed mother Francis Jenkins Butler (age 69), and 3 year old Virginia Mountjoy. (Virginia Mountjoy would be a grandchild of Fanny Jenkins and neice to William and Richard Butler. She was the child of sister Virginia, who married William H Mountjoy and presumed died after birth. Her burial can not be located. Young Virginia 3yo was counted twice on census as she made her home with father and half siblings in Washington D.C.

By 1880, He is living in house of Charles and Mary J Clark. (They may be related as still sorting out)

His mother is still alive in 1880, living with brother Ricahrd. Her burial can not be found to date.

His brother is Richard H Butler buried in Hollywood Cemetery Va
Another brother is Elisha J Butler

He had a sister Virginia born 1839 married a widower Wm. Mountjoy in 1866 - had a child Virginia in 1868. She may have died in childbirth.
He had a sister Mary E Butler b 1828 - she married Purdy Makely and buried in Clifton Cemetery
Had a sister Frances M(Martha)? married George P Wright - his burial Clifton - wife unknown

Brothers William, Richard and Elisha appear to have worked for the Railroad most of their lives.

His sons were Rawley Butler - Willim B Butler and Earl Charles Butler (linked)

Per obituary he was survived by wife and 1 child in 1905
