Jimmie R. Ruby, 65 of Winter passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at his home following a six-month battle with liver cancer.

Jimmie Roland was born Dec. 7, 1946 in Ladysmith, the son of Louis and Gertrude Ruby. Jim grew up in Lemington and graduated from Winter School. There he met his lifelong partner, Bonnie Rietschel, and they married in 1966. Jim and Bonnie had two children, Tami and Tom. After living and working in Milwaukee, Jim and his family moved to Rice Lake, where Jim's 30-year career with GTE began. He worked there, then in Winter and Park Falls. In 1973, Jim and Bonnie purchased Winter IGA and ran the store for four years.

Jim retired from GTE in 1997 at 49 years of age with his desire to pastor. Victory Christian Center Church was established in 1998 and Jim preached there until shortly before his death. Jim also worked part time for Mid-America Pay Phones and plowed snow with his own business for 30 years. Jim loved the outdoors with snowmobiling, cutting wood and working in his shop. He loved building, taking care of his huge lawn and garden and helping anyone that needed help. Jim had a special love of music; he loved playing his guitar and singing to the Lord. He loved Mexico and its people and traveled many times to La Gavia, where he had a home. He loved the culture and loved helping the poor. For many years he helped support churches in Monterrey and Paredon, Mexico. He so loved and respected the work the pastors did in Mexico – the work will continue on. Jim loved his grandchildren dearly and spent countless hours teaching and loving them, spending fun times building, fishing, hunting and playing music with them. Jim was blessed to have all seven grandchildren live close and share his life. Jim and Bonnie also have an adult home, which started in 2003. Jimmie and Stanley have truly become a part of the family and brought great joy to Jim. He loved them dearly and spent much time outdoors cutting and hauling wood and doing "man" things.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; a daughter, Tami of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, Tom (Julia); grandchildren Tyler, Jessica, Antonio, Mercedez, Raelyn, Samatha and McKenzie; and a brother, Norman.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ron; and a granddaughter, Gabriela.

Funeral: The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 12 at Zion Lutheran Church in Winter. Rev. Truman Stricklen officiated, with music provided by John Lindbloom and Tyler Sanchez.

Visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Burial was in Winter Cemetery.
