March 8, 1928 - November 10, 2012

On November 10, 2012, KENNETH STANALAND passed away with his family at his bedside at the age of 84 in Fulshear, Texas. He was born to Fred and Sadie Stanaland in Kenedy, Texas on the 8th of March, 1928.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his fraternal twin sister, Martha and his brother, Jack (Jackie Boy).

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Mary Louise Stanaland and a loving daughter, Mary Catherine Svab of Katy, Texas and her husband, Larry, and two grandchildren whom he adored, Brittany Nicole Svab, and John Robert Svab.

He spent much of his youth growing up in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from high school he began attending the University of Texas in Austin. Halfway through his college studies, he took a pause from school to help his mother through a difficult time. He then returned to the University and graduated with a degree in Transportation 1952.

While attending Texas, he met his beautiful wife, Mary Louise. They married in 1951 and adopted their only child, Mary Catherine in 1959. While at Texas he was a member of the ROTC and after graduation served in the military in various locations including Virginia, New Orleans, Beaumont, and Galveston. After being discharged from the service, he returned to school to obtain his Law degree and then began his professional career in the oil and gas business as a Landman and later an executive. Early in his career he worked for Sohio, Tenneco and Monsanto in Houston (Texas), Casper (Wyoming), Shreveport (Louisiana) and Pittsburg (Pennsylvania). He then took a position with the Bank of the Southwest in Houston as head of their Oil & Gas division and later its Estate Planning area. After several years at the Bank, he rejoined Monsanto as head of their Land Department and then took a position with Pennzoil in 1980 as their General Manager of Land. He retired from Pennzoil in 1990.

While working at the Bank of the Southwest, he came to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. After being saved, he spent much of his life in witness and dedication to the church. He is a fifth generation Texan and a member of The Sons of the Republic of Texas. In retirement he enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandchildren (taking them fishing, riding on his golf cart, skipping rocks on the lake), and traveling with his wife to visit the many friends they made in the industry and through the churches they attended. He was a faithful husband, loving father and energetic grandfather. He was charitable with his time and resources to help those around him who were down on their luck or needed a boost and encouragement to get through a difficult time or situation. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

A memorial service celebrating Ken's life will be held November 14, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Katy (600 Pin Oak Road, Katy, TX 77494) at 1:30pm with Dr. Charles Wisdom officiating.
