Robert B. Ayres passed away November 2, 2012 in Kissimmee, Florida. He will be laid to rest in Modesto next to his wife of more than sixty-three years. Bob was born in Modesto to Ina Clawson Ayres and Harry E. Ayres.

He grew up in a house on "K" St. in what is now downtown Modesto. He attended Modesto High School, Modesto Junior College, and graduated from University of California Berkeley with a Masters of Pharmacy Degree.

He married Phyllis M. Kruizenga on July 29, 1939. They had two children, Robert Jr. and Ann. Phyllis passed away in 2003.

Bob was co-owner of Central Drug Store, one of Modesto's oldest pharmacies, for more than thirty years. He loved music and sports, particularly golf and tennis. He played in the Modesto High School band, the Frank Mancini band, and helped pay college expenses by playing in a small dance band. He and friend of more than eighty years, C. Dwight Yates, MD, at one time were Stanislaus County doubles tennis champions. He was a charter member of Del Rio Golf and Country Club.

Bob was a devoted husband and father. He was an excellent provider to his family. He was a very honest and moral man. He had many friends.

Sometime after a 90th birthday celebration in Modesto, he moved to Florida to be near his daughter. He remained in Florida until his death.

He is survived by his son, Robert, Jr. and wife, Terri of Lebanon, Oregon; daughter, Ann A. Heaton and husband, John of Orlando, Florida; six grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

His brother John C. Ayres preceded him in death.

A graveside service will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, November 16th, at Acacia Memorial Park, 801 Scenic Drive.

Services have been entrusted to Franklin & Downs Funeral home.
