The son of Irish immigrants, Monsignor Louis Francis Kelleher was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on August 4, 1889, as one of eight children, and was ordained to the priesthood in Rome by Cardinal Basilio Pompilj on April 3, 1915. Appointed Auxiliary for the Archdiocese of Boston and Bishop of the Titular See of Thenae, he received his episcopal consecration on June 8, 1945, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross from Richard James Cushing, Archbishop of Boston, assisted by Francis Joseph Spellman, Archbishop of New York and by Edward Francis Ryan, Bishop of Burlington. He died suddenly of a heart attack in the rectory of St. Catherine of Genoa church, Somerville, of which he was pastor, on November 26, 1946, aged 57, and lies buried in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn, Massachusetts.
